Our history.

R. Dale Daniels founded Brimfield Insurance Group in his home in 1969. The agency was located on State Route 43, South of Brimfield, where Dale and his wife Eileen ran the business from an office in their garage. As the agency grew, it moved several times to accommodate its customers with superior service. The agency included several part-time agents when it relocated to State Route 43 and Brimfield Drive in 1973. In 1978, the agency moved to 1204 Tallmadge Road where it remains today. When Dale Daniels retired in 1991, Chas Madonio bought the agency. The 90′s were years of significant growth for Brimfield Insurance. In 1995, the Major Agency in Mantua was acquired; by 1996, Brimfield Insurance had doubled its size in just five years. In 1999, the Esposito Agency of Ravenna was acquired, and by the year 2000, the total combined volume of the agencies made it one of the largest in Portage County. This acquisition gave our customers the convenience of two locations. Because Brimfield Insurance and the Esposito Agency were under the same ownership, policyholders could make payments and obtain service at either office.

In 2002, the Stow Agency opened for business in Stow, Ohio. Though the agency was started from scratch, it is now one of the fastest-growing agencies. It has expanded its Summit County base into Medina County, with a producer located in Brunswick, Ohio. In 2008, Chlysta Insurance Service was acquired by the Brimfield Insurance Group. After merging with the Esposito Agency, it doubled the size of the Ravenna operation, making it one of the largest agencies in Ravenna. The combined offices are now known as Portage Insurance.
After the retirement of several long-time agency team members in 2018, we consolidated the Stow Insurance location to the Home Office in Brimfield in order to better serve our customers.

Our core value is community.

Brimfield Insurance Group wouldn’t exist without the support of our surrounding communities. That is a privilege we take very seriously! Our staff is actively involved in the Portage County Insurance Association, serving the residents of Portage County. Among our accomplishments was the development and implementation of Think About Tomorrow, a driver awareness program for area high school students. We’ve also been involved with and supported the Ben Curtis Family Foundation, Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, Ravenna Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Ravenna, Safer Futures, Big Brothers & Sisters of Portage County, Portage County Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Portage Animal Protective League, Rose’s Rescue, Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary, Habitat for Humanity, Hiram Farm, Miller House, Freedom House, Center of Hope, Portage County Clothing Center, Hospice of Robinson Memorial Hospital, Portage County Children’s Services, and the Children’s Advocacy Center. In 2001 we were instrumental in establishing the PCIA David H. Green Memorial Scholarship in partnership with Kent State University. Additionally, we support the community through leadership roles with the Kent Jaycees, the Portage Park District Foundation, the Portage County Historical Society, the Rotary Club of Kent, the UH Portage Medical Center Foundation, the Portage Animal Protective League, and Main Street Kent. The Madonio Animal Trust (MAT) was established in 2013 with the single goal of promoting animal causes in our communities. An endowed fund of the Portage Foundation, this non-profit organization has grown by leaps and bounds, particularly after the introduction of the annual Dog Days of Summer fundraising festival which began in 2015.
